INVESTING IN OUR FUTURE MEDIA PROFESSIONALS

The Wisconsin Black Media Association, Inc. is proud to offer two scholarships for our deserving youth of Milwaukee and the surrounding area.

Carole J. Meekins Scholarship

This scholarship is named for longtime journalist, Carole Meekins. Carole has been working with TMJ 4 in Milwaukee for over 25 years. A former music teacher, she is the co-anchor of 'TMJ4 News at 5' with Steve Chamraz. On February 16th, 2020, TMJ4 debuted the "Positively Milwaukee Show With Carole Meekins," a show devoted to hopeful and uplifting stories in the Milwaukee area. The Carole J Meekins scholarship is offered to college students with a journalism major.

Gregory D. Standford Scholarship

Gregory D Stanford was one of the founders of the Wisconsin Black Media Association and most respected editorial columnist with the Milwaukee Journal and Journal Sentinel before retiring in 2007. A native of Washington, D.C., Greg graduated from Marquette University, and became evolved into what is now known as the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP).  Greg passed away in 2019. This scholarship is giving high school seniors who have a passion for journalism and intends to have a career goals in the field of journalism.
